Looking for a big, juicy, mouth-watering burger? Stop in at Boston Blackie`s, 164 E. Grand Ave. Tucked away below Michigan Avenue, it`s one of the best-kept secrets around.

The burgers–100 percent ground beef–weigh a half-pound before cooking. They`re served open-face on a toasted sesame bun or fresh kaiser roll with lettuce and tomato and a slice of pickle for $3.25. Or try the Boston Blackie`s Burger, smothered with bacon and grilled onions, for $3.45. Each comes with a generous scoop of cole slaw from Carson`s, the ribs place. Add fries–no small potatoes here–for 75 cents, and for less than 5 bucks you`ve got a meal filling enough for two, if you can bear to share.

Owner Gus Maskaleris says his bar and grill`s name derives from its `30s atmosphere. A Chester Morris mural is behind the bar.

Boston Blackie`s, open for four months, serves daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It`s closed on Sunday.
