Brock said there is no need for protectionist legislation because of the nation`s ”unparalleled” economic recovery in the last three years. ”Inflation`s back is broken, a record number of Americans are working (and) interest rates have been halved,” he said. ”In light of these figures, it is ridiculous to talk about protectionist measures.” Brock was President Reagan`s trade represenative before becoming secretary of labor.
