My compliments go to editor and staff of The Tribune for its coverage in
”The American millstone” of Dec. 1. Though I have often been critical of The Tribune for its reporting, the series of articles on the underclass, a most troubling national problem, was handled responsibly and with true grit.
As a black, I find the problems of poor education, nutrition, health, housing and unemployment to have economic roots. I agree, as the writers of the articles suggest, that the solutions to this problem of the
underprivileged reside with blacks helping blacks, and assuming responsibility for our destiny.
