The Art Institute of Chicago`s Junior Museum presents a special children`s show, ”The Graphic Art of Charles Schulz,” Friday through May 15. The traveling exhibit, organized by the Oakland (Calif.) Museum, contains 124 pieces of Schulz`s work, including preliminary sketches and large-scale drawings done for his famous ”Peanuts” comic strip.
The exhibit also includes ”Peanuts” comic books and dolls modeled on the strip`s characters. Videotapes of Schulz explaining the process of creating animated cartoons will be shown.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Junior Museum will have a special event to mark the show`s opening. Guests will include Lucy, who will on hand to give advice; Snoopy (someone in costume, of course); and Jason Serinus, who does the whistling for Woodstock–Snoopy`s bird friend–on the TV ”Peanuts” specials.
Children will have the opportunity to make cartoons and to view all the TV specials.
