Louisiana Land & Exploration Co. said Monday it will buy Houston-based Inexco Oil Co., a move that will significantly increase its reserves of natural gas.

A definitive agreement has been signed, but Charles Fleet, vice president and corporate secretary of New Orleans-based Louisiana Land, said it could be late summer before the merger is completed.

Both companies are engaged in oil and gas exploration.
