The Marx Brothers were comics to the end. The very end. The rabbi who officiated at Chico`s funeral had never known him, but that, unfortunately, didn`t stop him from delivering a eulogy that went on and on and on. ”It was completely off the mark,” writes Chico`s daughter, Maxine Marx, in ”Growing up with Chico.” ”Nothing rang true. I looked at Groucho and Harpo, and they were squirming with discomfort, too.” When the service was finally over, Harpo leaned over to Groucho and said, ”When I go, do me a favor and hire a mime.”

So many actresses–from Lucille Ball to Lauren Bacall to Cybill Shepherd

–started out as models because acting is what the best models really do.

”There are 36 pictures in a roll of film,” explains former cover girl Lauren Hutton in July`s Gallery magazine. ”I would try to be at least 12 different people. Though the photographers told me they wanted me to be sexy or an All-American housewife or the girl next door, I knew that back at the agency they might change their minds. Without them asking, I`d give them everything. That way I felt sure I`d be hired back.”

There is justice. Ask Justine Bateman of ”Family Ties.” She was hired to play a Pilgrim girl who communicates with a modern-day boy through their thoughts for an episode of ”The Twilight Zone.” ”The first couple of days of shooting, they did all the boy`s scenes, using me for the voice-overs, the sounds the boy was hearing in his head,” Bateman says. ”After two days, they fired me, saying my accent wasn`t right. That really ticked me off because nobody had ever told me to work with a voice coach on a Pilgrim accent. Who knows what a Pilgrim sounds like anyway?” To Bateman, justice came when the entire episode was cancelled.
