”All passes; art alone endures.” Unless, of course, it`s done in marzipan. At Saturday`s A.R.C. (Artist Residents of Chicago) Edible Art Competition benefit, 75 artists will work in edible media, then serve their artworks to the guests at a dinner buffet. The four categories–and some examples–include science fiction (a nuclear reactor with hand-made tortilla

”insulation” around the energy rods and nuclear-waste hot sauce

”dips”), abstract (a white icing and brown cracker solitaire card game with red and blue icing for card markings), figurative (hands and fingers with radish nails, worked in taramasalata–a Greek dip of red caviar, bread and oil –titled ”Finger Food”), and erotica (use your imagination). The beneficiary–A.R.C.–is a cooperative women`s art gallery.

A.R.C. Edible Art Competition (and dinner); Betcar Building, 800 Frontage Rd., Edens Expressway at Tower Road, Northfield, 266-7607; 8 p.m. Saturday;
