Sox pitchers posted a 3.51 earned run average following his arrival, helping the staff to finish third in the AL overall (3.93). . . . Spent 13 seasons in the major leagues, playing for Washington, Texas, Cleveland and Oakland. . . . Led the A.L. with a 2.19 ERA in 1969, when he went 14-5 for Washington.
