In regard to Mr. Spitzer`s article, ”Feminists and the solidarity myth,” I am taken aback by his arguments. He stated that ”unwed black mothers have little interest in reproductive rights” and that pro-choice issues are the concerns of ”liberal, well-educated upper middle-class American women.”

His attack on a particular women`s rights conference and the manner by which they presented the pro-choice issue may indeed have merit. However, for Mr. Spitzer to infer that having the basic right to control your own body is a white issue specific to a certain economic class is fundamentally claiming that a black woman should not have the opportunity to learn and understand a woman`s right to choose.
