— 1957–Jim Pendleton triples off Turk Lown in 10th to drive in Frank Thomas with winning run as Pirates win 5-4 at Wrigley Field to reclaim 7th place from Cubs. Cubs had tied game in 8th on Chuck Tanner`s 2-run single.

— 1967–Don Lock hits 3-run homer off Curt Simmons and Phillies beat Cubs 4-2 at Wrigley Field, snapping Cubs` winning streak at 7. Rick Wise and Dick Hall combine for the victory and snap Ron Santo`s hitting streak at 12 games.

— 1977–Mick Kelleher, Gene Clines and Ivan DeJesus drive in 7th-inning runs as Cubs rally to beat Expos 4-3 in Montreal for their 7th straight victory. Bruce Sutter pitches scoreless 8th and 9th for his 20th save.

SOX

— 1957–Lose double-header at Boston as Frank Sullivan beats Jack Harshman 8-3 and ex-Sox Mike Fornieles beats Billy Pierce 9-2. Sox manage to stay in 1st, tied with Yankees, who are 4-hit by Cleveland`s Early Wynn 2-0.

— 1967–Joe Horlen (9-1) throws 5-hitter and batterymate Duane Josephson goes 3-for-4 as Sox beat Orioles 5-0 in Baltimore to take 5 1/2-game AL lead. But Al Weis suffers torn knee ligaments in collision at second base with Frank Robinson and is lost for season. Robinson misses several weeks with double vision.

— 1977–Lamar Johnson hits bases-loaded triple in 2d inning and Sox go on to rout Seattle 10-4 at Comiskey Park. Ken Kravec goes 6 innings for the victory.
