No action is expected to be taken on manager Jim Fregosi until after the weekend. A spokesman for American League President Dr. Bobby Brown said Brown will review films and the reports on Fregosi`s argument with umpire Dale Ford Thursday. Fregosi probably will be suspended for bumping Ford. ”I haven`t heard from the league yet,” Fregosi said. ”I`m not going to say anything until I do.”
The Sox and WFLD-TV were upset that some of Fregosi`s choice language was heard loud and clear over the airwaves.
Fregosi still had a sense of humor about the affair Friday. In the first inning, Ernie Whitt hit a pop-up that went out of play. The ball hit a wire and deflected back into catcher Carlton Fisk`s mitt. The ball was ruled a foul, and Fregosi came out to see what was going on. He mocked an argument with home-plate umpire Rich Garcia and then kicked dirt on Whitt`s shoes.
