Jim Fregosi thinks Richard Dotson is trying to be too fine with his pitches. He lost his fourth straight Friday. ”He`s trying to get all of his pitches on the outside corner of the plate,” Fregosi said. ”He`s also not pitching the right-handers inside.”
The Royals are trying to work around the language barrier with Melido Perez, who beat the Sox in his major-league debut Friday. Perez, a native of the Dominican Republic, speaks little English. ”I think he knows as much English as I do Spanish,” said George Brett. ”I know a little Spanish. I took it for two years in high school. But I got eight D`s.”
The Sox will go up against Bret Saberhagen in the series finale Sunday. Saberhagen was 15-3 at the All-Star break. Since then, he`s 1-5 with a 5.55 earned run average.
