Bo Jackson expects to see a media crunch when the Royals go into California Monday. The subject, of course, won`t be baseball. ”I`ll treat it like I treat the reporters here,” said Jackson, who will play for the Los Angeles Raiders after the baseball season. ”I`ll say I`m talking about baseball.”

Jackson has started just seven of the Royals` last 30 games and none since Aug. 29. He`s hit only two homers and driven in only six runs since the All-Star break. ”It`s almost like being punished.” Jackson said.

Birmingham has advanced to the championship round in the Double A Southern League playoffs. The Barons completed a three-game sweep of Huntsville, Ala., with a 17-7 victory Saturday. Birmingham`s success will delay the big league trials of pitchers Jack McDowell, Adam Peterson and John Pawlowski. They were called up when teams were allowed to expand their rosters Sept. 1.
