Running back Joe Dudek, cut by the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7, has re-signed with the team and probably will start in Monday night`s replacement game against the Los Angeles Raiders. Denver`s running attack netted only 38 yards in last week`s 40-10 loss to Houston, and coach Dan Reeves called it

”one of the areas we were hurting the worst in.”

Dudek, a free agent from Plymouth State, N.H., who was on the club`s injured reserve list in 1986, originally said he would never cross a picket line.

”I stayed out as long as I could,” Dudek said Tuesday. ”I didn`t want to go against my teammates. But my bank account was down to nothing. I also told myself that I`m not in the union anymore and that there are guys out there playing who are. I kept looking at the checkbook and the bills, and the pluses starting taking over. It was pretty obvious that they needed some running backs. I couldn`t let the opportunity go by.”
