United Development Homes has begun preconstruction sales at the Hawthorn Club in north suburban Vernon Hills.
The 146-acre development, offering estate and classic single-family homes, is adjacent to the Tally Ho Golf Course on the south side of Ill. Hwy. 45, 1 1/2 miles west of Ill. Hwy. 21.
”Many Vernon Hills residents want to stay in this area, but are ready to move to larger, more luxurious homes,” said Al Goodman, vice president of sales for Oak Brook-based United Development. ”This type of housing hasn`t been readily available in this area. As a village grows, the type of housing diversifies.”
Seventy-three estate single-family homes will offer five floor plans ranging in size from 2,606 to 3,284 square feet with three to five bedrooms and 2 1/2 to three baths. Located on half-acre lots, the homes range in price from $239,900 to $274,900.
Five estate floor plans are offered:
– The Essex, a ranch-style home with 2,606 square feet of space, has three bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. The
$259,900 price includes a family room fireplace, and bay windows in the dining room and breakfast area.
– The Windsor, a two-story, 2,744-square-foot home, has four bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, with a first-floor den with wet bar, family room fireplace, living room bay window, two-story foyer and cathedral ceiling in master bedroom. The home is priced from $239,900.
– The Chalfonte, a two-story home with 2,831-square-feet, has four bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Standard features include bay windows in the dining room and breakfast area, fireplace and wet bar in the family room, two-story foyer and cathedral ceiling in master bedroom. The home is priced from $245,900.
– The Fontaine, a 2,969-square-foot home with four bedrooms and three baths, is priced from $269,900 and offers a choice of a first-floor den or fifth bedroom. Amenities include a family room fireplace and wet bar, winding staircase in the entry foyer and cathedral ceiling in the master bedroom.

The 257 classic single-family homes range in size from 1,893 to 2,720 square feet, with three to five bedrooms. Located on quarter-acre lots, they range in price from $145,900 to $178,900.
