While listening to President Reagan`s State of the Union address, I became aware of a hidden prejudice, the prejudice against the single person.
Our President referred to the family as the ”backbone” of our country, and made references to the family at least 15 times. As a single individual, I resent this. I pay taxes, but I have no dependents to claim. I work hard to make a living and return income back to the economy. Because I don`t have 2.3 children and a two-car garage does not mean my spirit and patriotism are diminished. Do we have to start another movement along with civil rights, gay rights and women`s rights? I sincerely hope not.
