TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart has made a full confession of a ”moral problem” to officials in his denomination, the Assemblies of God, and has placed himself in their hands, a minister said Saturday.

Rev. Don George, pastor of a church in Irving, Tex., said he and his wife spent Friday and Saturday with Swaggart and his wife at their home in Baton Rouge, La.

”Brother Swaggart has given church officials a detailed confession of a moral problem,” Rev. George said in an interview. ”He has asked for forgiveness from God, church officials and his family.”

The Assemblies of God reportedly has been studying allegations that Swaggart, 52, was seen entering a motel room with a prostitute.

The 13-member Executive Presbytery of the Assemblies of God church met Thursday with Swaggart in Springfield, Mo., ”to discuss matters that could affect his credentials with the church,” said church spokeswoman Juleen Turnage.

Swaggart, 52, the nation`s top-rated television minister, will appear before his congregation in Baton Rouge on Sunday and tell them he is ”seeking God and will ask for their forgiveness,” Rev. George said.

The evangelist wants to maintain his ministerial credentials in the Assemblies of God, Rev. George said, and he is seeking to be ”restored.”
