Hooray for Brentano School parents and Louise DeGroot as they stand up to the Board of Education. The ”bumping” process that they protest is just one of the board`s teacher-assignment policies that adversely affect education. It`s interesting to note that not once in all the news coverage did the board or teachers` union representatives mention the children`s welfare.

Ms. Figueroa`s comment that returning this teacher to Brentano would encourage other parents to take over classrooms reflects the Board of Education`s fear of parent involvement. Parent involvement might mean putting the children first.

The sad part of all this is that Ms. DeGroot, who appears to be a competent teacher, will be lost forever to the public schools.
