To me Mike Royko has always been a ”shining light to brighten up a dark day,” and I really believe him to be the Damon Runyon of our times. But my perennial enthusiasm really took a dousing in his column on Nancy Reagan and her stand on the dope problem in America. This is one time his casual flippancy was dealing with a deadly serious matter and sank to the depths of

With this serious menace threatening the lives and futures of our young people, why this vicious attack on our nation`s First Lady, who has had the guts to use her prestigious position to speak out? As Slats Grobnik would say: ”Come off it, Mike. Get real. We just need more voices like hers.”
