In his letter, printed in the Voice of the people on March 10, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin has correctly stated that his position (on the ethical questions behind the article ”It`s over, Debbie”) is based on ”Catholic moral teaching.” Many of us who are not part of the Roman church believe that the cessation of extreme pain, in certain circumstances, is not immoral but a true expression of mercy.
