To get bigger strawberries and more of them, hold the winter mulch and stretch on a floating row cover instead, Organic Gardening magazine reports.

In tests over the last three years, strawberry plants` yields increased 27 to 50 percent when a spun-bonded polyester row cover was used, as compared with a mulch of salt marsh hay.

The row cover is an almost-opaque white material that is so lightweight it ”floats”-the plants hold it up as they emerge.
