There is no justification whatever for the drawing you used to illustrate the ”Sanctity of life” letter on March 7. It depicted an angry man threatening a prostrate, ”pro-choice” woman with his ”pro-life” sign.
Did the artist have a photograph to draw from, proving that such an incident took place? If it was based solely on the writer`s gratuitous assertions, you owe an apology to the overwhelming majority of anti-abortion activists who conduct themselves civilly during clinic demonstrations.
Television footage of Operation Rescue events last year, which resulted in almost 20,000 arrests, do not document a single instance of harassment or screaming of obscenities by participants. Rather, they show peaceful protesters singing hymns and praying, responding to abusive antagonists and police brutality with edifying silence-just the opposite of what your drawing accuses them of.
We do not deny that clinics have been bombed by a few extremists, but all bona fide right-to-life organizations condemn such tactics.
