Three first-period goals in less than a minute sparked Michigan to a 9-4 victory over Illinois-Chicago Friday night at the Pavilion.

UIC center Darryl Noren tied a school record by scoring all four goals, but the Flames couldn`t capitalize on the feat, dropping their third straight. The Flames led 2-1 at 16:25 in the first period. But in the next 46 seconds, the Wolverines` Ted Kramer scored two goals and Denny Felsner added another to give Michigan (2-0-1) the momentum.

”It was the kind of game where we had to take the crowd out of the game in the first half, and we did,” said Michigan coach Red Berenson. ”And then the score took care of itself.”
