”Internal Affairs” has been on my must-see list since December, which was when I first heard about it. Not because I thought it would be a gripping drama or an intense action film but simply because it stars Richard Gere (who needs no introduction) and Andy Garcia (you remember, Michael Douglas` partner in ”Black Rain”).
Garcia is Raymond Avila, a detective who has just been promoted to internal affairs (the division cops love to hate) and his first case is to investigate a misconduct report. The report has been filed against one of his old friends, who just happens to be partnered with Dennis Peck (Gere). As Avila researches the misconduct case, Peck`s name just seems to keep coming up. It doesn`t take long for Avila to become convinced that Peck does a lot more while on the force than just serve and protect.
”Internal Affairs” is a brisk, dark violent thriller that left me breathless. Gere oozes sex appeal as he struts around in tight Levis with a self-approving grin on his face, and new-hunk-on-the-block Garcia is simply irresistible. This is a movie twosome I`m sure a lot of people won`t mind seeing more of. (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
