Deborah Ann Jewell, 17, of Arlington Heights, who had been in a coma for nearly five months after she was hit by a car, died Monday in Northwest Continuing Care Center, Arlington Heights.

Miss Jewell, an honor roll senior at Elk Grove Village High School, was hit by a car Oct. 2 as she attempted to cross Algonquin Road near Golf Road in Rolling Meadows. She suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries.

She was on the Algonquin Road parkway with a friend when she walked into the street, police said, apparently not seeing the oncoming traffic. No tickets were issued to the driver, a 72-year-old woman from Stillwater, Okla., and no one else was injured, police said.

”She was an upstanding, loving and adventurous person,” said Colleen Jewell, her stepmother.

Other survivors include her father, Edward, and four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held Wednesday in Arlington Heights.
