Chicago`s reputation as both a blues and jazz town is reflected in

”Sweet Home Chicago” and ”All That Jazz,” variety shows produced by two local elementary schools that will be cablecast in April by Continental Cablevision.

In ”Sweet Home Chicago,” Rolling Meadows police officers will be on hand to carry out the Central Road School`s ”Blues Brothers” theme, said PTA volunteer organizer Beverly Bain. Thirty acts supplied by members of the kindergarten through 6th-grade student body will be introduced by handcuffed emcees.

Among the talents is a group of four kindergarten boys who perform an a cappella version of ”Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” Then there`s a father-daughter duet of ”Mr. Sandman,” and a pair of 2nd-grade twins who dabble in sleight-of-hand magic tricks.

”The kids love it so much,” Bain said of the annual show, now in its third year.

Black-light effects highlight St. Theresa`s School`s jazzy theme, though some of the acts are a world away from honky-tonk. A Bach minuet will be performed by two violinists, one a kindergartner, the other a 2nd-grader, said Cheryl Potts, who`s directing the show with volunteer Debbie Prutch.

Also on the call sheet are Irish folk dancing, gymnastic routines, lip-synching and even some comedic sendups, Potts said.

Central Road School`s ”Sweet Home Chicago” will be cablecast at 5 p.m. Saturdays through April on Continental Ch. 19. St. Theresa`s ”All That Jazz” will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursdays through April on Channel 19.
