In the wake of this spring`s flood scare for communities along the Des Plaines River, Maine Township is selling flood alarms to residents and businesses. The battery-powered devices cost $10 apiece and emit a high-pitched signal if water reaches the sensor arm, according to the township. Officials recommended using the alarms in basements, laundry rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and other areas that might flood. The alarms are available at the Township Hall, 1700 Ballard Rd., Park Ridge. The phone number is 708-297-2510.
