Outfielder Dave Gallagher`s hamstring continues to improve, and there`s hope he`ll be able to come off the disabled list on May 15, as scheduled.

”Each day, I`m feeling a little bit better,” Gallagher said.

What he hasn`t done is run.

”We won`t even think of doing that until at least seven days is up,”

said trainer Herm Schneider. ”Right now, he`s doing very well.”

– Latest stats have the Sox second in the league in defense. Only Oakland has a better percentage (.993 to .986) and has made fewer errors (six to 10).

– The Sox have named Tim Lang assistant conditioning coach for their minor-league system. Lang, presently a teacher and coach at Downers Grove North High School, replaces Steve Odgers, now with the big club.

– Birmingham first baseman Frank Thomas was named the Sox organization player of the month for April. He hit .344 with 5 homers, 18 RBIs and, with 33 walks, had an on-base percentage of .572. His slugging percentage was .739.
