Jesse Jackson`s guest column ”The case for America`s 51st state-New Columbia” once again subjected us to one of his self-serving sermons. Rev. Jackson hops from calamity to calamity in a never-ending attempt to keep his face in the media eye.
The current calamity is the District of Columbia, with one of the highest murder rates in the nation. Making the reverend a senator or congressman will not cure the ills of ”New Columbia,” but would certainly serve the motives of Rev. Jackson.
The real (and simple) solution is to erase the imaginary line bordering the District and make it part of Maryland. This would provide all of its citizens with all the representation they could ever want at the federal, state and local levels.
