In reporting about the Vatican`s prohibition of public dissent by theologians (June 27), the Tribune stated that the document was expected to draw criticism from liberal Catholics who claim that the Vatican ”is displaying an authoritarian attitude.” It would seem that anyone who describes himself as ”Catholic,” liberal or otherwise, should recognize that the Vatican is an authoritarian body, and he should therefore be delighted that this body is living up to its responsibilities.
