A minor matter: If he feels bad before he goes to the mound, it`s a good sign for Sterling Hitchcock.

”I don`t know, something just wasn`t right,” said Hitchcock, a Greensboro (N.C.) Hornets pitcher after throwing a no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Sumter in the South Atlantic League. ”Nothing was working. But that`s usually a good sign. If I feel good before a game, I worry. If I`m feeling bad, then I feel all right.”

The no-hitter came in Hitchcock`s first full season of professional baseball. The last time Hitchcock did it, he didn`t feel good then, either-three years ago when he pitched for Seffner-Armwood High School just outside of Tampa.

”What I remember about that game was not feeling good before I started,” he said. ”I just didn`t feel right. Nothing was working. Then I went out and threw a no-hitter. After the game, I realized I had locked my keys in my car.”
