The rumors have been circulating for some time now that ”Generations”
may not be on the air by the beginning of 1991. At a recent NBC affiliates meeting, it was confirmed that the show, which premiered on March 30, 1989, may not be around to celebrate its second anniversary.
”Generations,” which made daytime soap opera history by presenting black families with long-term story lines, has not been able to rise above a dismal 12th place in the daytime Nielsen ratings. When this happens, the show in question isn`t profitable for the network.
Despite the fact the show has a wonderful ensemble cast and some interesting, and informative stories-such as one about sickle cell anemia-it hasn`t garnered a large enough following to boost ratings. Reportedly, ”GEN” has until the end of the year to prove itself.
– Elizabeth Ashley, who has been filming the new CBS series ”Evening Shade,” is hopeful that she will be able to juggle her schedule and continue playing Emma Ordway on ”Another World.” In the new series, which stars Bert Reynolds, Ashley plays the sister of a character played by Hal Holbrook. Ashley describes her ”Evening Shade” character as ”a strong Southern woman.”
– Terry Alexander, who was originally hired to play attorney Troy Nichols on ”One Life to Live” on a short-term basis, has caught on with audiences, and he has now been signed to a contract. Alexander will be involved in a front-burner story line, but no clues are available as to what that story line would be about.
