”Let Japan defend the Middle East; let Texas pay for the S&Ls.”
The above is my campaign slogan for `92.
Japan and many European countries need oil from the Middle East much more than we do. Why should our male soldiers have to suffer without Playboy and Penthouse in Saudi Arabia? Why should our female soldiers have to endure the baleful, lustful stares of the Arabs?
Why, in a more tragic-case scenario, should Americans die for oil they can do without? The Eurasians must have oil from the Middle East. Let them defend the Saudis and recover Kuwait. As for me, I`m willing to pay a dollar more per gallon of gas rather than see the Persian Gulf reddened with the blood of 100,000 Americans.
As for the second part-the crisis in the Middle East may ironically provide relief on the S&L scene. The inflated properties bought by the S&Ls have deflated, but with the crisis in the Middle East and resultant rising oil prices, they should inflate again.
Still, we will probably be left with $5,000 for each American to pay. Instead, let Texans pay $50,000 each. If they don`t like it, let `em look at the Quebec example. Texas can either go separate or rejoin Mexico, which we stole Texas from anyway.
