Jobless claims rise: Initial claims for state unemployment insurance rose 12,000 in the week ended Sept. 1, to 382,000 from 370,000 the week before, the Labor Department said. In the week ended Aug. 25 about 2.54 million people were receiving state unemployment benefits, up 39,000 from the week before. The number of people receiving unemployment benefits as a percentage of those covered by unemployment insurance remained unchanged at 2.4 percent in the week ended Aug. 25.
