This definition might apply to the Tribune`s editorial endorsing Lynn Martin for the U.S. Senate over Paul Simon. It would seem that the ”may nonetheless be true” part of the definition might not apply to the Tribune`s editorial.
All the virtues listed for Simon seem to outweigh the equally complete total listed for Lynn Martin. Simon seems also to trail a bit in faults.
