56-49 as Donya Witcher (19 points), Derrick Smith (14) and Mark Bacys (10)

– York tournament-Torrid outside shooting by backcourt mates Jason Stella and Steve Apt paced Leyden (2-0) to a 71-51 rout of No. 18 Hersey. Stella had 25 points with five three-pointers and six rebounds and Apt had three three-pointers, seven assists and five steals.
”We were down six in the first quarter when I called a timeout and switched defenses,” said Leyden coach Joe Tullo. ”I think our shooting was good, but it was our defense that frustrated them into missing easy shots.”
In the second game, Elgin stopped York 68-40 behind Brian Hensgen (16 points, seven rebounds) and Steve Patton (14 points, nine rebounds).
– St. Charles tournament-Host St. Charles (2-0) got 28 points from Matt Gullickson, 17 from Tom Poulin and 10 from Grady Olsen to upend No. 20 New Trier 79-68. Rick Hielscher had 24 points, Carl Peller 14 and Tim Payne 12 for New Trier (1-1).
St. Charles trailed 22-21 with six minutes left in the half, but took a 35-34 lead on a free throw by Dave Zeitz with 37 seconds left in the half and never trailed thereafter.
– Fenton tournament-Glenn Johnson led five players in double figures with 22 points as Lake Park (1-1) drubbed Joliet Central 93-77 in the losers bracket. Scott Hasenjaeger had 24 for Joliet Central (0-2). In the other losers bracket game, Glenbrook South (1-1) stopped Immaculate Conception 86-77 behind Eric Berg (24 points), Tom Morton (23), Andrei Ostric (21) and Scott Lidskin (17). In a winners bracket game, Foreman (2-0) beat Naperville Central 45-40 behind 16 points from Chris Key and 10 from Eric Bell. Keith Cunningham had 15 for Naperville (1-1). Maine East (2-0) slipped past Fenton 56-53 behind Dan Pieroni`s 20 points. Kyle Shafer had a game-high 22 points for Fenton (1-1).
– Jacobs tournament-No. 15 Joliet West (2-0) edged Barrington (1-1) 50-48 as Dave Evans scored 22 for the winners and John Lyon 18 for the losers. In the other game, Libertyville (1-1) took a 15-4 first-quarter lead and went on to dump Jacobs 51-32 as Matt Williams had 18 points.
– Johnsburg tournament-Johnsburg (3-0) upended Grayslake 59-31 with tournament MVP Mike Hermann scoring 18 points and Dan DuFour 17, including five of seven three-point attempts. Terry Jones had 10 points for Grayslake (1-2).
– Lake Forest tournament-Deerfield outscored Wheeling 7-3 in overtime to record an 82-78 victory. Kenyon Catchings led Deerfield with 22 points while Wheeling`s Will Watson led all scorers with 31 points. Mike Richards added 26 for Wheeling. Lake Forest, leading 53-40 after three quarters, held off Glenbrook North 73-65. Brian Geraghty had 19 points for Lake Forest. Chris Collins led the Spartans with 25 points.
– Maine South tournament-Maine South (2-1) romped past Maine West 82-37 behind Roy Johnson (19 points), Jim Rushford (17) and Sean Collins (15).
– Oak Park tournament-Fenwick (2-0) slipped past Providence-St. Mel 70-62 with big games from Adam Kotowski (24 points) and Brian Ballarini (17). Don Patton scored 15 for St. Mel. Louis Jordan scored 22 points to lead Oak Park (1-1) to a 93-48 victory over Prosser. Rob Bruce came off the bench to add 20 for Huskies. Terry Troutman led Prosser (0-2) with 14 points.
– Orr tournament-Unbeaten Orr breezed past Cregier for its fourth straight victory with Richie Allen scoring 17 points, Ted Hubbard 15, Marcus Melton 13 and George Jones 11. Maurice Reddick, who had 12 points as Cregier beat Von Steuben 47-32 earlier, had 12 points for Cregier (2-3). Anan Houston scored 14 points and Johnnie Walker 12 as Schurz (2-2) beat Mather 68-55. Harrison Morris had 20 for Mather (2-2).
– Rockford Boylan tournament-Willie Wesley (18 points) led four players in double figures as St. Martin de Porres (2-0) defeated Rockford Boylan 62-52. South Shore (1-1) breezed over Bowen 67-52 behind Tobias Lampkin (15 points)
and Dowarren Stewart (11) while Terrence Rone tossed in 36 for the losers.
– Round Lake tournament-Round Lake led the whole way in a 79-61 win over Zion- Benton as Dave Burton scored 23 points, Wally Illg added 14 and Brian Smith and Pat Lejman 13 apiece.
– St. Ignatius tournament-Nazareth (3-0) got 30 points from Mack Brown and 21 from Sean Pearson to beat St. Ignatius 81-60 for the title. Art Reliford had 18 for Ignatius. Paul Gordon had 27 and Matt Tonelli 21 to lead Marmion (1-2) past Francis Parker and Chip Bassa (26 points) 75-69.
– St. Rita tournament-Hubbard (2-1) overwhelmed Holy Trinity 95-62 behind Ramone Hannah (19 points), Reggie Rose (18), Dwayne Rose (15), Tony Ross (15) and Andre Hawkins (13), and Class A power Luther South (2-1) pummeled Chicago Latin 59-38 with Steve Conley bagging 20 points and Mike Curry 12.
– Schaumburg tournament-Demond Hawkins (20 points) had the hot hand for Weber, hitting ten of eleven shots in a 79-42 drubbing of Holy Cross. Demetrius Pelt chipped in with 14.
– Sycamore tournament-Marengo (2-0), with Bob Mennenah scoring 21 points, Shawn McKee 19 and Joel Hagen 14, decked De Kalb 64-45 and Sycamore used a three-point shot by Scott Carlson with :01 seconds left to beat Kaneland 49-48 to advance to Saturday`s title game. Mike Wojcik led Sycamore (2-0) with 22 points. Chris Davenport managed 20 for De Kalb (1-1).
– Whitney Young tournament-Young, Collins and Farragut each earned their second straight victories. Kip Brown had 16 points and Curtis Williams 15 as Young walloped Harlan 80-46; Theodis Owens had 20 points, Lorenzo Harris 17 and Lemont Johnson 16 as Farragut routed Near North 76-48, and Eddie Scott (14 points) and Walter Anderson (11) paced Collins to a 76-37 thumping of Lake View. Julian (1-1) ripped Senn 71-53 behind Robert Bennett`s 29 points and Thomas Newton`s 20.

– Belvidere tournament-Nikki Ullrich netted 12 points to lift De Kalb (2-2)
past Crystal Lake Central 42-32.
– Buffalo Grove tournament-Meredith Thornton (13 points) and Jennifer Wright
(11) led the way as New Trier (2-2) edged Maine South 40-37. Margaret Zimmerman had 12 for Maine South (2-2).
– Deerfield tournament-All five Stevenson (3-0) starters scored in double figures, led by Denise Butler`s 20 points, in a 86-51 pasting of Grayslake. Deerfield (2-1) handled Round Lake 53-42 behind Kristi Reirden (15 points), Beth Bernstien (14) and Julie Geerdes (12).
– East Aurora tournament-St. Benedict escaped with a 57-54 victory after watching tournament host East Aurora overcome a 43-21 halftime deficit to tie the game at 54 with 40 seconds left. St. Benedict was led by Carolina Reyes
(22 points), Kim Carroll (13) and Marie Oles (11) while Dee Pegues scored 17 for East Aurora. Downers Grove South (2-2) got past Plainfield 49-27 behind Becky Biacharzyk`s 12 points, and Naperville Central (6-0) remained unbeaten as Jill Adamson scored 18 points in a 76-41 rout of Oak Park. In the last game, Proviso West moved to 5-0 with a 55-36 victory over Benet (4-2). Anita Clinton had 17 points and Jennifer Lyne 13 for Proviso, which led 13-3 after one quarter. Nicole Signore had 10 for Benet.
– Elgin Academy tournament-Wheaton Christian (4-1) broke a 20-20 halftime tie to down Elgin Academy 48-36 with Beth Russell (15 points, 10 rebounds), Jayne Rooks (13 points, 12 rebounds) and Liz Phinney (13 points) leading the assault.
– Elk Grove tournament-Michelle Russell poured in 28 points and Terri Prestage 13 as Dundee-Crown (2-1) pounded Rich Central 79-31. Elk Grove handed Zion-Benton its first loss in four games 53-46 behind 19 points from Jennifer Rojek.
– Glenbrook South tournament-Host Glenbrook South (2-1 overall, 2-0 in the tournament) stopped Leyden 59-41 with Casey Heublein`s 16 points leading the way. Coleen Carcione had 19 (three three-pointers) for Leyden (1-2).
– Johnsburg tournament-Jenny Shull scored 14 points and Holly Bauer 10 as host Johnsburg scuttled Richmond-Burton 52-32 to improve to 2-0 in the tournament. – Lyons Township tournament-Unbeaten Prospect slipped past Glenbard North 32-24 for its fourth straight victory with Roslin Refugio providing 13 points. Lyons Township (3-1) nudged Homewood-Flossmoor 57-46 with Sheila Carroll (12 points, 10 rebounds), Anne Clark (13 points, 17 rebounds) and Kristen Martina (11 points) leading the way. Laura Migliorese had 16 and Allison Petersen 12 for H-F.
– Maine West tournament-Jackie Williams (21 points, 13 rebounds) hit one free throw with no time left to push Joliet West past Whitney Young 47-46. Maine West (4-1) got past Fremd 60-44 as Kerry Wegrzyn scored 22 points, including 17 in the second quarter, and Sue Song added 17. Washington beat York 48-37 behind Kina Brown`s 24 points and 12 rebounds.
– Wheaton Central tournament-Elgin (4-1) trampled Glenbard West 45-38 in the title game with Jennifer Keifer scoring 13 points. Lacie Waller had 14 for Glenbard West. Kristi Greene scored 19 points as Thornton whipped Hersey 61-42. Andrea Miller had 31 points, including five three-pointers, as Willowbrook crowned Larkin 73-61. Corey Carter had 23 points for Larkin.
– Marillac 58, Madonna 27-Maria Vitaioli (13 points, nine rebounds) and Heather Walsh (13 points, seven rebounds) led the way as Marillac (4-0)
breezed in a GCAC crossover.
