Mike Singletary has received a $25,000 check to be distributed among four Chicago-area charities for winning the NFL Man of the Year award.
The Bears linebacker chose the Cabrini-Green center, Motivating Individuals for Learning and Living, the Lawndale Community Church and Community Center and Great Expectations, an organization that allows professional athletes to lend guidance to inner-city children.
The award is presented to the NFL player with the best record of on-field accomplishments and charitable and civic contributions. Former Bear Dave Duerson, currently with the Giants, won the award in 1987.
