The craft of sheep shearing will be demonstrated at the Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area near Deerfield on Saturday, April 13.

”Joe and Jerry Magiera, longtime sheep people who have a big sheep farm in Wadsworth, will come out and shear our sheep” said Mark Hurley, Lake County Forest Preserve naturalist.

”There will be four sheep sheared. It`s done on a stage area in an arena. As it`s going on, Joe does a play-by-play,” Hurley said.

A weaver will demonstrate spinning techniques after the sheep are sheared.

Last year, according to Hurley, more than 100 people attended the sheep shearing event at Ryerson.

The shearing begins at 1:30 p.m. at the conservation area`s farm, located on Riverwoods Road between Half Day Road and Deerfield Road. Admission is 50 cents for Lake County residents and $1 for non-residents. For information call 708-948-7750.
