Todd Greenbusch will never forget his first at-bat as a member of Aurora Central Catholic`s varsity baseball team.
A slightly built 5-foot-8-inch, 145-pound sophomore infielder-outfielder, Greenbusch keyed a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as Aurora Central posted a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Westmont Friday in a non-conference affair.
Greenbusch`s single drove in Scott Banks to pull Aurora Central to a 4-4 deadlock. Moments later Greenbusch scored the decisive run on a double by Emo Carrizales.
Then heroics by Greenbusch and Carrizales made a winner of Dan Peterson, who came on in relief and worked five innings, giving up six hits, striking out one and walking three.
The victory improved Aurora Central`s overall record to 7-1. Westmont dropped to 9-5 with the loss.
Addison Trail 4, Downers Grove North 3-Brian Kay scored from second base and Jamie Neri from first on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning as Addison Trail (7-4, 4-2) took a 4-2 lead and held on in the West Suburban crossover.
Glenbard North 4, Naperville North 1-Buddy Day (5-0) scattered six hits and fanned seven and Jim Martinson had two hits (triple) and scored twice as Glenbard North (10-5, 4-1 in the Du Page Valley) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Wheaton Central 3, Wheaton North 2-Pinch-runner Bob Williams scored from second on a throwing error to lift Wheaton Central (4-7-1, 3-2 in the Du page Valley).
Waubonsie Valley 6, Geneva 4-Winning pitcher Ryan Wakley keyed a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth with a run-scoring single to pace Waubonsie Valley`s Little Seven Conference leaders (12-1, 6-0).
Morris 7, Plainfield 1-John Darlington (5-0) allowed just one hit and struck out 12 and included a double among three hits and Kelly Dransfeldt had two hits and scored three times to power Morris (14-1, 5-1 in the Little Seven).
Lisle 15, Newark 0-Rick Knizner (two hits, home run, four RBIs), Chip Rumshas (two hits, one RBI) and Matt Minnerick (three RBIs) guided Lisle
(10-4) in non-conference play.
Montini 11, Wheaton Christian 3-Walt Bratcher`s three-run double broke up a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning. Bratcher picked up the win, improving his record to 2-0 and Montini`s to 9-3.
East Aurora 10, Streamwood 9-Sammy Schmidt had three hits, Manny Maysonet two and Rich Schreiber keyed a five-run sixth inning with a run-scoring single for East Aurora (7-3-1, 5-1 in the Upstate Eight).
West Chicago 3, Glenbard East 2-Ken Hodgen (two hits) drilled a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the ninth inning and winning pitcher Joe Wagenaar struck out 10 for West Chicago (7-5, 3-2).
