While reading the Tribune article about the relief effort for earthquake victims in Soviet Georgia, I learned that Israel was one of the first countries to volunteer aid. This tiny country has a terrible economy and its citizens have one of the highest tax rates in the world. Yet Israel helps. It has also budgeted $10 million in aid to the Kurdish refugees, already having sent planeloads of medical supplies. (The U.S. has only promised $2 million to Bangladesh.)
It`s time we take special note of the humanitarian efforts of the Israeli people who are so frequently cast in such an unfavorable light in the news.
