Lansing trustees plan to increase the village`s monthly fee for garbage pickup to $9 from $6 beginning Aug. 1.
The $3 increase would come a little more than a year after officials decided that it would be cheaper for the village to continue operating its garbage services than to hire a private disposal company.
Lansing splits its fee for weekly pickup of household garbage, lawn waste and recyclables between water bills and the property tax bills. The portion of the fee that will increase is the rate charged on water bills. The rate will rise to $4.50 a month from $1.50. The Village Board is expected to vote on the proposed rate increase at its June 4 meeting.
