Unlike many other cities, Chicago does not have a spay/neuter program. Because of this, hundreds of thousands of puppies, kittens, dogs and cats are killed in area shelters and the pound.

All this suffering could so easily be prevented. Other cities are saving tax dollars and pre-venting cruelty by getting at the cause. The Chicago Animal Care and Control Commission must change from archaic, cruel, expensive rounding up of dogs and cats and killing them to preventing their birth through a municipal, low-cost spay/neuter program. It is within their power to do so.
