Germany will begin its 1992 stamp program Jan. 9 with three anniversary issues, a new coat of arms definitive and another definitive in the women in history series.
A 60-pfennig commemorative will observe the 2,000th anniversary of the city of Koblenz. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Confluentes because it is located at the confluence of the Rhine and Mosel rivers.
The design shows the monument of Emperor William I, a silhouette of the city with the churches of Our Lady and St. Florin and the city`s coat of arms.
The 100th birth anniversary of Protestant theologian Martin Niemoller will be depicted on the 100-pfennig commemorative. Niemoller was an outspoken critic of Hitler and his anti-Jewish policy. He was jailed in 1937 and held in a concentration camp until 1945.
After World War II, Niemoller resumed his ecclesiastical work. His portrait is shown on the stamp.
Another 100-pfennig commemorative notes the 25th anniversary of the
”Terre des Homes” child welfare organization founded to help children injured in the Vietnam War and later expanded to aid children in 28 countries. The design shows the peering eyes of a child.

The design depicts the federal state`s coat of arms-three lions on a shield-and a map indicating the state`s location. The series will continue in alphabetical order of the states` names.
The women in history series features a 400-pfenning stamp honoring Charlotte von Stein (1742-1827). An intimate friend of writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, She exerted considerable influence on his creative work.
