Herbert Silver, 87, a retired bank executive, died Wednesday in his Rogers Park home. Mr. Silver also had worked as a chemical engineer and retail executive. At the age of 75, he learned how to use computers and put his new knowledge to use as an executive at First Chicago Bank of Ravenswood. He was a devoted lover of poetry, often quoting verses to customers and fellow employees, and he spoke several languages. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Ruth Day; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Piser Weinstein Menorah Chapels, 5206 N. Broadway.
