As a regular visitor to Chicago, I disagree with the guest column in the Dec. 28 issue entitled ”Keep CTA off the downtown trolley.”
The public transportation in Chicago is better than the other cities mentioned in the article. I always park my car and use the bus and ”L”
service provided by the CTA. This would be impossible in Los Angeles. All areas of town are covered during all of the time I travel, including weekends and holidays. The frequency of service is good. The CTA personnel have always been courteous. Chicago is one of the few cities that provides quick, low-cost service from the airport to downtown.
The article implied that CTA was not capable of managing large projects, but I understand that the Midway expansion is under budget and ahead of schedule.
I found the Chicago public transportation, managed by the CTA, to be good and I think your article does it a great disservice.
