In the Jan. 8 article, ”Russians enjoy Christmas” you incorrectly stated that the Russian Orthodox Patriarch is the Russian equivalent of the pope. The pope is considered by Roman Catholics as the embodiment of Christ on earth. This is not so for the Orthodox Church.
The Orthodox Church does not consider anyone, including the Patriarch, as the embodiment of Christ on earth. This is just one substantial difference between the pope of the Catholics and the Patriarch of the Orthodox Christians.
