Illinois House Speaker Madigan and Senate President Rock must suffer from the Rip Van Winkle malady. Have they been sleeping through the recession?
Why do they say it is the governor`s fault they didn`t know about Illinois` budget trouble? Do they not see? Do they not read? Do they not listen?
Now Madigan and Rock act amazed. They just didn`t realize the state was so economically devastated. Nobody told them. So they want a quick fix, calling it another temporary tax increase-you know, just to get over this hump.
The twins, Madigan and Rock, say people will understand. They thump their chest and beat the drum for still another tax gouge, touting it as a one-time cure-all. Who have they been talking to, the tax users or the taxpayers?
Gov. Edgar has stayed the course against new taxes. Want to bet where the good old boys stand? I can`t wait to get at that bunch next election!
