Whooping cough is more prevalent in the United States than official reports indicate, according to federal researchers.
The researchers found that the preventable disease kills 25 youngsters and hospitalizes 3,300 a year. The federal Centers for Disease Control say on average they receive reports of six deaths and 1,100 hospitalizations annually due to whooping cough, or pertussis.
