If the Marine Corps is downsizing, why is it spending so much taxpayer money on TV recruiting ads?
It is obvious that the commercial with the battling chessmen was neither cheap to produce nor cheap to place, unless the networks are giving away ad time.
In Lake County, cost-conscious voters recently voted down referendums for new schools and forest preserves. Those same voters would be appalled to know that the Marine Corps advertising for ”a few good men” is the same military unit offering outplacement counseling for the many men it is letting go back into civilian life.
Voters should set their priorities straight and call our military (and government) to account for blatant misuse of tax dollars and approve the use of that money where it will do some good.
