After every census, the clowns in Springfield embarrass us all as they fight like hogs at the trough over a new legislative map. We have until 2001 to do something to straighten out this silly situation.
The politicians can`t do it, so perhaps the time has come to give the job to a computer.
The argument against a computer is that there is no such thing as a neutral computer. The basic data going into a computer is a factor in any final map, so a map will favor Democrats or Republicans depending on who controls the input data. It will be necessary, therefore, to keep the computer away from the control of politicians or social engineers with a political agenda.
Perhaps we could turn to our state universities, where there are plenty of computers and demographic experts. If not that, hire a contractor.
